Milwaukee Dog's Flyball sent two teams to
Ulti-mutts March Madness tournament, March 6 & 7, in Madison.
On Saturday, "Great Balls of Fur", the team featuring
Madison (Sarah Willems),
Disney (Mari Pavleje),
Finney (Fred Kauer)
and Whim (Marnie Hammerle),
arrived ready to face the challenge of racing over 16"
jumps. The team showed a lot of heart and endurance, but due
in part to division placement and a 'generous' seed time,
the team was at an unsurmountable disadvantage and placed
4th in its division. Special mention goes out to Chance
and his handler, Sarah Byers, who calmly handled their practice
runbacks at their first tournament and will be a welcome addition
to the team this upcoming season!
Also on Saturday, the "All Fur'd Up"
team felt confident with a line-up of Duncan
(Nichole Reiner), Jasmine
(Sally Haldorson), Kobi
(Mark Anderson), Rosie
(Kira Haslam) and Teddy
(Karen Michalski). The team raced well and had fun, but it
too was faced with an uphill climb against faster teams in
its division, and placed 3rd for the day. The bright spot
of the day was the 6th dog and handler team, Xoe
and Kimberly Follett, who experienced their first full day
of racing and earned the titles of Flyball Dog (FD) and Flyball
Dog Excellent (FDX). Congrats, Kim and Xoe, we knew you could
do it and we look forward to travelling with you this summer!
Jasmine (Kira Haslam) also earned her Flyball Dog Champion
(FDCH) - way to go, Jasmine and Kira!!
Milwaukee Dog's fielded just one team on
Sunday featuring Madison (Sarah Willems), Kobi (Sally Haldorson),
Duncan (Nichole Reiner), Disney (Mari Pavleje), Rosie (Kira
Haslam) and Teddy (Karen Michalski). The team's focus was
to race the dogs an equal number of heats while running clean.
There were some very tight and exciting races, and at the
end of the day, the team won half of its races, placing 3rd
in the division.
Thanks to Evan Emmons, Pam Caldwell and
Kim Follett for the excellent help they gave the teams over
the weekend! You all were terrific.
