Milwaukee Dog's Great
Balls of Fur flyball team journeyed to Amana, IA for the second
time this year for the 2nd Annual Dog Days of Summer Flyball
Tournament on August 21st and 22nd. Rallying from a tough
Saturday of racing, the team finished up the two day tournament
in second place in its division.
Racing on Saturday and Sunday was again
divided into morning and after noon sessions. This time, the
schedule favored Milwaukee Dog's, with the team racing in
both morning sessions and having afternoons free.
Nothing seemed to go right for the team
on Saturday, but they still finished day one of the two day
tournament with a record of 3 wins and 4 losses. Sunday was
a different story. The team came out smoking in the first
race of the day, beating their opponents in three straight
heats in the best 3 of 5 format. That set the tone for the
remaining races, all of which the team won to finish the day
undefeated and in second place for the tournament.
Congratulations to the team: Rosie
(Kira Haslam), Teddy
(Karen Michalski), Quest
(Pam Caldwell), Whim
and Deuce (Marnie
Hammerle), and Disney
(Mari Pavleje). A big thank you to Vera Hammerle who ran Whim
a couple of times when he and Deuce were in the same race.
Thanks also to Mark
Haslam, our box loader, and to Patty McDanel (Evan Emmons'
sister) and her friend, Arlene, who came and helped even though
Evan and Betzi weren't
racing. Finally, congratulations to Marnie and Deuce who earned
his Flyball Dog Champion (FDCh) title in Amana.
The team's next tournament is on Labor Day
weekend at the Jefferson County fairgrounds. This is the closest
tournament to Milwaukee, so come on out and support the team!
