Milwaukee Dog's Great
Balls of Fur rode into Henry for River City Flyer's annual
Flyball tournament at the Marshall/Putnam County Fairgrounds.
Though the team was a small one, featuring Quest
(Pam Caldwell), Rosie
(Kira Haslam), Kobi (Mark
Anderson), Finney (Fred
Kauer) and flyball newbie Betzi
(Evan Emmons), it proved to be feisty and very competitive.
First, some notable individual accomplishments:
Congratulations to Betzi & Evan for
reaching their first flyball title
(FD) -- Betzi is now officially a Flyball Dog. More congrats
go out to Finney and Fred for finishing up that Flyball Master
(FM - 5,000 pts) title they've worked so hard to achieve.
And, a big applause for my favorite pair, Kobi and Mark, for
achieving Kobi's Flyball Master Excellent (FMX) title by reaching
10,000 points.
Team results were somewhat mixed. The team
fought hard on Saturday, taking every race they lost to the
maximum 5 heats, but only managed 2 wins. With their heads
held high, they accepted 5th place, and the dogs happily accepted
their squeaky ball prizes. The highlight of the day was certainly
witnessing Betzi's first official flyball run! Sunday was
met with far greater success. The team tied for 1st place
with 4 wins, and ultimately was awarded 2nd due to time. How
close was it? With a break-out time of 21.00, our team ran
an excellent 21.10, but the 1st place team managed a perfect
21.00 to take the win. And of course, thanks go to Sam Emmons
(statistician), Mark Haslam (box loader) and Sally Haldorson
(line coach) for assisting the team throughout the weekend.
