Hawkeye Hustlers Fall Fling Results
October 16-17, 2004

Sometimes the final standings don't reflect the success a team had. That was the case at the Hawkeye Hustlers Fall Fling in Amana, IA on October 16th and 17th.

MDTC sent two teams to the tournament, Great Balls of Fur and All Fur'd Up. GBF finished 6th in their division on Saturday and 2nd on Sunday. AFU was 2nd on Saturday and 5th on Sunday. But that doesn't tell the whole story.

Both teams raced very consistently and competitively all weekend, and all of the dogs earned a lot of points toward their NAFA titles. In fact, each of the four dogs on GBF earned just over 1,000 points! Because five dogs shared the racing spots on AFU, the point totals varied from just over 250 to over 800 for the dogs on that team. It was definitely a very successful weekend for both teams!

The Great Balls of Fur team, running over 12 inch jumps, consisted of Madison (Sarah Willems), Rosie (Kira Haslam), Whim (Marnie Hammerle), and Ted (Karen Michalski). Betzi (Evan Emmons) was also on the team. She didn't race, but got the opportunity to practice in the prerace warm-ups and did very well. The five racers on All Fur'd Up, who ran at 10 inches, were Quest (Pam Caldwell), Xoe (Kimberly Follett), Disney (Mari Pavleje), Deuce (Marnie Hammerle), and Finney (Fred Kauer).

As always, we couldn't have raced without our extra helpers: Patty McDanel (Evan's sister) and Vera Hammerle. We also want to thank Kimberly's boyfriend, Frank, Patty's friend, Arlene, Roberta Kauer, and Chuck, Sydney, and Bryce Willems for spending the weekend cheering the teams on.

Last but not least, Deuce set a new club record for the 10 inch jump height, running one of his heats in 4.08 seconds. Congratulations, Deuce!
