The United
Flyball League International (U-FLI) was founded
and began to sanction tournaments in 2005. Already over 1,100
dogs have been registered with U-FLI from over 100 clubs
(including Milwaukee Dogs') spanning the United States and
Canada. The rules of racing under U-FLI are very similar
to those of the North American
Flyball Association (NAFA), which has sanctioned tournaments
since the 1980's. One important difference is the manner in
which height dogs are measured and a maximum jump height of
12 inches vs. 16 under NAFA. This change will take some of
the pressure off the Milwaukee Dogs' ever faithful but overworked
height dogs. The new association will also provide flyball
enthusiasts with the opportunity to race without being associated
with a club (through Singles & Doubles Classes) and to
compete on a pick-up team of their choosing composed of friends
they make throughout the country. The Milwaukee Dogs' Teams
Great Balls of Fur and All Fur'd
Up look forward to racing in their first U-FLI tournament
hosted by the Ulti-Mutts
in Madison the weekend of November 19-20. Watch for the new
U-FLI individual flyball titles beginning with "Top
Flight" following the name of our Milwaukee Dogs'.
