The weather couldn’t have been better for MDTC’s annual Ghost Night Bash, but the warm (for Wisconsin) fall evening was just the beginning of a terrific night full of tricks and treats. The evening started out with a Ghost Walk as the participating dogs scoured the training field hunting for ghosts. The dogs (and their humans) bravely took on an alien robo-kitty, a phantom tree, some shuffling garbage-bag-people and a haunted forest. With courage, they faced ghosts that popped, banged, scratched and shrieked. When the ghouls had been driven off the field, it was time to get down to the real fun: the costumes! And wow, what a turn-out! There were doggie devils and ladybugs, clowns, witches and wizards. Our judges had a difficult job of choosing the winners, but ultimately awarded prizes for the:

Most Creative Costume – Duncan & Nichole Reiner:
By gluing cottonballs to white fabric, Nichole turned Duncan into a dog in sheep’s clothing.

Scariest Costume – Marty & Deb Jumes:
Covered in glowing eyeballs and a big green horn, Marty was a scary outerspace alien that scared our judges.

Cutest Costume – Jennifer Wener and Abbey: Dressed as a baby, the smallest dog in the contest was cuddled and kept warm all night long.

Best Dog/Handler Theme Costume – Tula, Ernie and the Anapol family:
Pulling a covered wagon full of kids, Tula was a pioneer Groom and Ernie was her “male”-order bride. Make sure to visit our photo gallery to see some great photos of these and other great costumes.

Following the costume contest, many of the dogs Bobbed for Zombie Fingers and Sniffed out the Scooby Snack. With 20 entries in the Zombie Fingers game, Liberty (Mike Brauch) took a convincing win over the field – it only took Liberty 17.61 seconds to retrieve and eat 5 hotdog pieces! CJ (BJ Parrott) took 2nd with 22.70 seconds; Finney (Fred Kauer) took 3rd with 23.60 seconds. 19 dogs Sniffed out the Scooby Snack and though Duncan (Nichole Reiner) placed 1st with an astounding 4.6 second find, the prize was awarded to the runner-up, Bodie (Tina Felle) with a 5.7 second find, due to Duncan’s 1st place win in the costume contest. 3rd place was taken by Finney (Fred Kauer) with a 6.3 second find. 2 games participants also won door prizes: Kilt & Tim McLarty and Merlin & Donna Barsul. Ghost Night went out with a bang – literally. Gunner & Tina Felle won the Best Halloween Trick contest when Gunner quickly lay down ‘dead’ when Tina said, “Bang!”

Special thanks go out to all of the ghosts and those who assisted in bringing this all together: Sue & Tim McLarty, Deb Matthies & Steve Patrick, Sue Steinbach, Tori Baldwin, Kathleen Wener, Evan and Sam Emmons, Karen Brauch, Mari Pavleje Karen Felle and BJ Parrot. Also, we’d like to thank Sue, Deb, Linda Roman and Karen for providing the terrific entrees for the potluck. Hopefully we have not forgotten anyone who lent a hand, but if so, please know that we are thankful for your help!

A note from Mark & Sally: We would like to thank all of you who attended Ghost Night this year. We had so much fun arranging it, but the real payoff is to see all of you and your wonderful dogs enjoying the festivities. So all of you who missed it this year, we hope to see you next year!
