Sports Show “Spectacular” 2008!!

MDTC did it again - five long days of “demo” fun!! Crowds loved us as we took the stage with our furry friends and made them “Stage Stars”. Lead by Rick Sasek (commentator) who loves talking about our club, its purpose/goals, thoroughly explaining the demo exercises, and most of all, talking up our teams. Each show was about an hour long, and it was filled with demonstrations of Beginning through Utility levels of Obedience, Agility, Frisbee demonstration, Flyball, Go-Dog-Go. All ended with petting of the dogs at the edge of the stage so folks could meet our “stars” personally.

Free loving kisses and face washing were included. As for the typical “Doggie Bloopers”, yes some of the dogs just couldn’t resist the crowds and had to ham it up now and then. Lots of outbursts of laughter were heard, and that’s why we love these wonderful dogs. This year we had some new teams join us on stage and they did outstanding. We hope next year more new teams will join us. Don’t forget those of you who weren’t able to participate; we still have quite a few club demonstrations coming up this spring and summer. Please see Mari Pavleje about those dates and sign up sheets. The dates are in this issue of the newsletter.

Most importantly, MDTC would like to thank our members who volunteered their time to make our shows and booth such a success.

Sports Show Winner of the “Free 3-Month Membership” was: Dawn Santiago of Milwaukee!! (out of 160 entries) *Note: each entry that didn’t win was sent a “thank you” postcard for entering the contest with a reminder when our next Obedience class starting April 13th.

Hope to see you next year!!

Members: Come Steward at the AKC Show

June is just around the corner and we need your help at the Club’s Obedience/Rally Trial on June 6, 7, and 8. We need club members (and their friends) to help ring steward on Friday (rally obedience), Saturday (rally and regular obedience), and Sunday(regular obedience). Being a ring steward is a great way to learn about the different classes in rally and obedience, so when you go to show your dog, you’ll have a better idea of what to expect. (Plus, it’s fun to watch the dogs and handlers working together.) If you sign up to help at the trial, not only will you have fun, get a free lunch, and learn about showing your dog, you can also win cool stuff. Each day of the trial we’ll have a workers raffle. A name will be drawn each day for a prize. At the end of the trial, everyone who helped steward will have there name entered in the grand prize worker raffle drawing for a $25 gift certificate to J and J Dog Supplies. Check out their website at: www.jandjdog.com.

The trial is held in Ixonia at the Western Waukesha Dog Training Club. If you are interested in carpooling, please let me know when you sign up. The approximate times for each of the days of the trial are as follows:

Friday - starting around 2:30pm.
We will probably finish between 6 and 7 pm.

Saturday - starting around 8am and going until about 2 or 3 pm.

Sunday - starting around 8 am and going to about 1 or 2 pm.
To sign up, please contact: Sue Johansen

Phone: 262-786-3248 or Email: twosmartbcs@sbcglobal.net
When you sign up, please let me know if you can work all day or just a half, if you are interested in carpooling, and if you prefer to help with rally or regular obedience.

See you at the show!
